Day1: International Day for The Elimination of Violence Against Women In Her Shoes pop up Exhibition

DAY 1 Awareness Raising At Compassionate Derby

Join us at our stall at Compassionate Derby (St Peter's Church) where we will be raising awareness with Orange Ribbon and releasing 102 bio-degradable orange balloons in solidarity with the approximate number of women who are killed in the UK by a partner/former partner each year. We will also be joining in with the purple lights campaign for 16 Days of Visibility by switching on our Purple Light at The Mandela Centre Pear Tree Rd for 16 Days.

DAY 3: The Abortion ACT 50 Yrs On: Where Do We Go From Here?

Roundtable Discussion
The 1967 Abortion Act represented a historic step forward for women in England, Scotland and Wales.  However, throughout the fifty years that the Act has been on the statute book pro-choice activists have had to repel repeated attempts to curtail its provisions.  This discussion will address the issues impacting the debate and address the question where do we go from here?

DAY 4 Violence Against Women in The Suffrage Movement

Violence against women and girls is a global problem. It occurs in every country in the world and across all groups and classes, affecting 1 in 3 and 1 in 4 women, respectively worldwide and in the UK,  in their lifetime. This illustrated talk examines the violence against the women and some men who dared to demand their right to vote and were subject to 'state sanctioned violence unseen before against women of all social classes.This event is hosted by Deeds not Words Towards Liberation.  Refreshments will be served

DAY 5: The Mask you Live In

The Mask you Live In (15) 97 minutes) Explores how definitions of masculinity is harming society at large and unveils what we can do about it.  This is now a mixed screening Everyone is welcome

DAY 6: Survivor Voices - Listen & Share

Whether you have personal experience of abusive relationships, concerns about friends, work with women affected by GBV or simply want to learn more about the issues and how women have taken back control join us with open mind and hearts.

DAY 7: World Aids Day 2017

Screening Exposed: Lies about AIDS/HIV (90 minutes). Free refreshments for anyone wearing red in solidarity with people affected by AIDS/HIV everywhere. Everyone is welcome to attend

DAY 8: Feed The Soul Teach & Learn-in

A day of consciousness raising at the big teach and learn in includes; 12 1pm  Derbyshire Police Vulnerability Unit -  presentation on Bystander Intervention; Discussion on health & Well being; Screening of Endo What - exploring endometriosis; Ranuka Russell shares her knowledge of Herbs and plants; Sisters of Trebllica Dancing Troupe lift our souls through dance...join in or just watch and more...come and eat cook and share together. Women Only

DAY 14: 'Everyday Sexism and Rape Culture' Postponed due to illness. Banner Making is on as usual

Banner Making 2- 6.30pm for Saturdays March and Vigil. On as planned

Venue:  The Mandela Centre

Regretfully due to staff illness and a stretched team we are having to POSTPONE due to ill health - Everyday Sexism & Rape Culture Open Discussion 7pm - 9pm DWC

We want to examine the issues from sexist jokes and harassment to 'slut shaming' and physical assault. We will explore the impact on women and men and discuss strategies for difficult conversations and especially how we go from a mere rhetoric to action.

 

Tomorrow's Day 15's Awakening The Goddess event prior to the march and rally is also postponed

 

These events will be re-scheduled as a part of 2018 History Month Activities and our Red Tent Wisdom School in 2018. Apologies for the inconvenience but we are doing this in order to preserve all our remaining energies for Saturday's March and Rally and focus on our finale event on Sunday. Costs: £5 This helps us to recoup the £300 licence fee costs and includes a glass of Prosecco or Strawberry Lemonade. Food will be available for an additional cost f £2. If you really cannot afford these prices but feel that watching this film will make a difference to you then please get in touch
